Glaucoma is a type of optic nerve damage which causes typical changes on the optic nerve at the back of the eye and loss of visual field. The strongest risk factor is high pressure in the eye. If left untreated, it can cause complete loss of vision, but the deterioration can be halted or delayed with drops, laser or surgery.
